Intelligent roadside infrastructure unit to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety at uncontrolled crossings
Technology offered by an Estonian SME focuses on developing Smart City, Smart Road and Mobility related products. The intelligent roadside infrastructure unit utilizes artificial intelligence and sensors to collect data of its surroundings. It can predict the trajectories of road users to implement active safety measures and is a key enabling technology for autonomous mobility. Commercial agreement with technical assistance is sought after for piloting the technology in other locations.
Type 1: smart cities Role: pilot partner that will be expected to provide their infrastructure for piloting the intelligent roadside infrastructure unit under a commercial agreement with technical assistance regarding installing and integrating the offered technology with local networks. Type 2: road administrations Role: pilot partner that will be expected to provide their infrastructure for piloting the intelligent roadside infrastructure unit under a commercial agreement with technical assistance regarding installing and integrating the offered technology with local networks.
The Estonian SME has specialised in developing Smart City, Smart Road, and Mobility related innovation products to improve traffic safety and urban mobility. The company intends to make cities noticeably safer for pedestrians while offering many Smart City enabling solutions for urban development. Road travel has become significantly safer for most road users. The same, however, cannot be said for pedestrians. Pedestrian-involved traffic injuries cost the EU €120 billion annually. It is reported that over 90% of road accidents are attributable to human error. More than two-thirds of pedestrian-involved accidents take place in cities. As the world’s population continues to explode, cities are now realizing that they must become smarter to continuously improve traffic safety and urban mobility. To achieve this, they need reliable (sensor) data to base their mobility-related decisions on. The company’s technology utilizes narrow artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms coupled with latest and greatest sensor technologies to collect data of its surroundings. The proposed device also supports dedicated short-range communication (DSRC) and vehicle-to-everything communication (V2X) protocols over the LTE or 5G network, enabling automatic communication and warning delivery between all communication-ready traffic entities to improve traffic flow and safety at uncontrolled crossings, as well as provide additional data-based solutions for various smart city applications. As of today there are 10+ prototypes installed in total. The device’s cloud-based management dashboard is ready. The team aims to fully commercialize the intelligent roadside infrastructure unit by the end of 2021 The desired cooperation type: In order to test the technology in operational environment pilot partners and potential customers are sought after under a commercial agreement with technical assistance. This includes smart city test areas, science and business campuses with innovation-friendly environment, etc.
Advantages and innovations
Competing roadside infrastructure units cannot implement active safety measures to avoid collisions and/or mitigate the impact of an actual collision between road users. The advantages the company’s technology include: • Increase pedestrian safety near uncontrolled crossings over 80% by employing active safety measures; • Reduce CO2 emissions and fuel consumption of 1-9% near crossings thanks to improved traffic flow; • Collect real-time data to (1) empower Smart City applications and (2) support urban development investment decisions.

- Tell us about yourself
- We’ll discuss with you
- We put the right partners in touch
EEN help you find the right partner, rather than you going it alone.
Our role is to review and collate the most suitable submissions, and then send them to the client who posted the opportunity. We consult with you, and the client, to make the process professional and easy.
These are live opportunities. Your registration of interest on the site is just like a professional approach to a business at a networking event. To stand the best chance of success, make your submission really sing. Sell why the client who posted the opportunity should work with you. Excite them. Ask questions. Try and avoid copy and pasting words from elsewhere.
Once the client has chosen their partner, we'll introduce them over email and keep in touch with both parties to see how it's going. Sometimes things progress quickly. Sometimes because of changing priorities for either party, things progress slowly, but you never know - your next big business break could start right here.
