Sensor-based and machine vision waste sorting equipment

A Spanish company based in Barcelona has designed a new sensor-based and machine-vision sorting equipment for recycling and waste treatment. It integrates industry 4.0 applications with self-monitoring and connectivity, allowing real-time access to sorted materials data. Versatility, speed and precision are provided when identifying and separating very different materials. They are looking for partner for a commercial agreement with technical assistance or a technical cooperation agreement.

Partner sought

The company is looking for waste management companies, waste treatment operators, recyclers, industrial contractors and local authorities who can implement the equipment in new or existing material recovery facilities (MRF), waste treatment plants and recycling facilities interested in a commercial agreement with technical assistance. A technical cooperation agreement will also be considered when specific tests to meet partner’s materials needs may be required. The company is also looking for commercial agents with technical customer service capabilities interested in a commercial agreement with technical assistance.

A Spanish company based in Barcelona, with more than 10 years of experience providing innovative solutions of sensor-based sorting for recycling, waste treatment and various industrial processes, has designed a new sensor-based sorter and machine-vision equipment that applies hyperspectral vision, electromagnetics and metal induction technologies. The equipment integrates industry 4.0 applications with self-monitoring and connectivity, as well as data management and computer control. Touch screen based interface systems allow configuration and control of the optical unit, as well as the data mining and alarm management. The equipment facilitates plant management through the integration of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems. The sorter equipment designed by the company is composed by a feeding system (belt conveyor or vibratory feeder) with 2.7 to 3.5 m/s speed, an identification and sorting module equipped with machine-vision camera and sensors, a data processing system and a separation chamber with pneumatic ejection system based on compressed-air jets. The identification and sorting system is composed of one or more NIR (near infrared) and/or VIS (vision light) machine vision cameras, inductive sensors for metals, an integrated automate programmable logic computer (PLC) with different levels of ingress protection of control boards and high blowing resolution valve-blocks. Multi-channel feeding and processing are available with double or triple-tracks for simultaneous sorting of two or three material streams (up to 9 sorting operations) on a same optical sorter. The equipment provides high efficiency rates of material recovery and recycling. Recovery of a wide range of materials is possible such as glass, metals and plastics waste from municipal solid waste (MSW), compost, bottom-ash and slags issued from incineration (WtE and EfW), end-of-life vehicles (ELV) and post-shredding waste (PST), industrial waste, waste of electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), wood, fibres, textiles, etc. The Spanish company is interested in commercializing this technology via a commercial agreement with technical assistance. They would provide after-sales services by on-site and remote technical support and training, as well as spare parts and equipment and software updates / upgrades. The company is open as well to collaborations based on a technical cooperation agreement, when specific tests with the partner’s materials may be required. Customised tests could be performed at the company’s test centre located in Barcelona.

Advantages and innovations

When comparing with other existing solutions, the equipment provided by the Spanish company offers the main following advantages: • High production capacity and availability under demanding industrial conditions. • High recovery (efficiency) and purity rates of targeted materials. • Short payback period. • Versatility and flexibility when separating different materials with the same optical sorter. Easy programming and reprogramming. • Computer-aided calibration for high reliability and production stability. • Easy maintenance and cheap spare parts. • Direct online customer support service with remote connection. • Real-time access to sorted material statistics (dedicated interface, online accessibility). • Testing capacity with Customer materials at the company’s test centre.

How it works

  • Tell us about yourself
  • We’ll discuss with you
  • We put the right partners in touch

EEN help you find the right partner, rather than you going it alone.

Our role is to review and collate the most suitable submissions, and then send them to the client who posted the opportunity. We consult with you, and the client, to make the process professional and easy.

These are live opportunities. Your registration of interest on the site is just like a professional approach to a business at a networking event. To stand the best chance of success, make your submission really sing. Sell why the client who posted the opportunity should work with you. Excite them. Ask questions. Try and avoid copy and pasting words from elsewhere.

Once the client has chosen their partner, we'll introduce them over email and keep in touch with both parties to see how it's going. Sometimes things progress quickly. Sometimes because of changing priorities for either party, things progress slowly, but you never know - your next big business break could start right here.
