A South Korean government funded R&D institute offers time- controlled tactile (low latency) optical access for 5G (fifth-generation) wireless networks to companies and R&D organizations under technical cooperation agreement
A global ICT R&D institution, established by the South Korean government, developed time-controlled tactile optical access technology for 5G network, accommodating bandwidth-intensive and low-latency services such as AR/VR, 4K UHD, drone and robot control, etc. The institution would like to collaborate with companies or research institutes under commercial agreement with technical assistance or technical cooperation agreement.
- Type of partner sought: company, research institute - Specific area of activity of the partner: technology cooperation - Task to be performed: application of technology in its system
During the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, South Korea showcased the world's first 5G technology. Audiences around the world were able to enjoy the game in sync view, time slice (a specific moment can be frozen and can be viewed in different angles), 360-degree VR and omni-view, which was possible due to super low latency of 5G. According to the International Telecommunication Union, 5G is designed to be at least 10 times faster than current 4G Long Term Evolution network, promising download speeds of up to 20 gigabytes per second and a response time of less than 0.001 seconds. Which means, low latency technology is a key to the 5G technology. To ensure seamless flow of the 5G network, the global ICT R&D institution established by the South Korean government, has developed time-controlled tactile optical access (TIC-TOC in short) technologies. Based on 25Gbps per wavelength, the technology enables multiple wavelengths operation with low latency less than 1 ms access. The key technologies are composed of optical modules, optical transceiver, data compression, and MAC (medium access control) for optical access network enabling 5G wireless network. A high sensitivity 10Gb/s burst-mode and a 25Gb/s transceiver with high speed MAC provide up & downstream transmission over 29dB (PR30) of link budget from a 20km distance. A future optical access network would accommodate 5G mobile services, business services, and traditional residential services in the same optical distribution network. To use the optical access network for the 5G mobile services that require high capacity connections, increased capacity, and ultra-reliability as well as lower latency, the optical link between central office and end user’s equipment should provide guaranteed bandwidth and low latency. In addition to that, the simple accommodation of high speed signal over 25 Gb/s per wavelength in the already deployed optical fibre links having high optical power loss is very important. The TIC-TOC technology satisfies all these requirements, and the feasibility of TIC-TOC technology has been confirmed and are ready for commercialization. The developed technologies with patents could be transferred to any kinds of companies. The company would like to offer their technology to companies and R&D organizations under commercial agreement with technical assistance, license agreement or technical cooperation agreement. The institute is also interested in the collaboration with a company or other research institute to develop advanced future technology.
Advantages and innovations
The TIC-TOC technologies based on 25Gbps per wavelength enables multiple wavelengths operation with low latency of less than 1 ms access. It can accommodate 5G mobile services, business services, and traditional residential services in the same optical distribution network with seamless connectivity.

How it works
- Tell us about yourself
- We’ll discuss with you
- We put the right partners in touch
EEN help you find the right partner, rather than you going it alone.
Our role is to review and collate the most suitable submissions, and then send them to the client who posted the opportunity. We consult with you, and the client, to make the process professional and easy.
These are live opportunities. Your registration of interest on the site is just like a professional approach to a business at a networking event. To stand the best chance of success, make your submission really sing. Sell why the client who posted the opportunity should work with you. Excite them. Ask questions. Try and avoid copy and pasting words from elsewhere.
Once the client has chosen their partner, we'll introduce them over email and keep in touch with both parties to see how it's going. Sometimes things progress quickly. Sometimes because of changing priorities for either party, things progress slowly, but you never know - your next big business break could start right here.
